Field Trips

As a Photo Group member, you are welcome to join our field trips! All our field trips support all our photo group members, from the very experienced to the novice. Our more experienced members are glad to help beginners with all aspects of cameras and photography on our field trips.

Our trip experiences have consistently lead to award winning photographs at club meetings and local competitions.

Past field trips have included locations such as the Civil War Reenactment, LA Metro, Camarillo Airport Air Show, Underwood Family Farms, Huntington Gardens, Descanso Gardens, California Poppy Preserve, Anacapa & Santa Cruz Islands, Farmer’s Market, Hollywood Boulevard, the Getty Museum, the Getty Villa, San Pedro, Downtown Los Angeles, Lompoc, the Santa Barbara Zoo, Death Valley, Las Vegas and the Eastern Sierras.

Finally, we conduct training/critiquing field trips. In the morning, we go to a nearby location and shoot with experienced member/leaders. In the afternoon, we review and critique the images taken that morning.

DV Composite 250pxOnce again, the Thousand Oaks Photo Group is going to Death Valley! Pete Scifres will be handling the primary planning and guiding of this trip. As with all field trips, you must be a paid up TOPG club member with a waiver on file to participate.

We strongly suggest you make refundable reservations… it is always possible that the club would have to cancel this field trip on short notice due to illness, COVID restrictions, weather or other unforeseen events.

Our “group” motel is Stovepipe Wells Village, reservations 760-786-7090 https://deathvalleyhotels.com/. We urge you to make reservations there asap, for the nights of Saturday, January 8 and Sunday, January 9, checking out on Monday, January 10. These will run about $200 per night with tax. Or, you may choose to camp at the local campground or select a different hotel. (See handout for details)

We will be photographing at sunrise and sunset daily and several picturesque locations.

Please read our full Death Valley Information Circular for details.

It is extremely important you RSVP for this field trip via TOPG's EventBrite portal. Various updates may be issued as we get closer to the departure date, and you won't receive these updates unless you have registered. To sign up:
